Jörg Saßmannshausen was born 1967 in Darmstadt/Germany.
After finishing his secondary school he undertook a training as a laboratory-assistant at E. Merck Darmstadt.
He receving his pre-diploma at TU-Darmstadt and moved 1992 to Norwich (GB) where he obtained 1994 his MSc (sponsored by BP).
In 1995 he followed his supervisor to Leeds, where he gained his PhD 1997 (sponsored by BASF Germany).
1998 he moved to Oxford and worked as a post-doctoral researcher with M.L.H. Green.
After a brief spell at Imperial College London with Prof. V.C. Gibson he moved 1999 back to Germany to work with Prof. P. W. Jolly at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung.
After finishing his further education in IT (webmaster) he moved to Graz (Austria) to work at the Institute of Chemisty and Technologie of Materials (ICTM). He was working there as an assistant professor and aimed for his 'habiliatation', which has been submitted.
After two years as a Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde, Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, he moved in 2010 to his new home at the University College London as a departmental Computer Officer.
In 2017 he moved on to a faculty position at the University of Westminster.
In September 2018 he moved to The Francis Crick Institut where he was working in the scientific computing team to support the computationals needs of the researchers.
From December 2019 until January 2021 he was working for NHS in the BRC of Guy's and St.Thomas' Hospital. Since March 2022 he is working at the RCS at Imperial College London, UK
